While women have been getting “Mommy Makeovers” for years, fathers have had nothing comparable. Until now. We’d like to introduce the concept of the “Daddy Do-Over:” a combination of procedures to reshape a dad’s entire torso.

Moms often experience unwanted changes in their breasts and overall shape due to pregnancy, hormonal changes, metabolic changes, and genetics. A Mommy Makeover is designed to undo all that … but what about the dads who’ve developed stubborn pockets of fat while helping to raise the kids? Don’t they deserve some kind of mulligan?

A Daddy Do-Over combines multiple procedures to effectively remodel a man’s physique. First, male breast reduction or liposuction to the chest is used to get rid of man boobs (a common medical condition called gynecomastia). Liposuction of the flanks further improves a dad’s outlines. Finally, liposculpture of the upper and lower abdomen can help dads get a more defined “six pack.”

By combining targeted liposuction with gynecomastia reduction, our surgeons can provide dads with a body they can show off at the pool, in the gym, or on the street. Men had 796,086 cosmetic procedures last year in the United States, and it’s not unusual to see male patients at our offices at Advanced Aesthetics, PC. Like women, guys can regain their self-confidence when they feel good about the way they look.

Men who want a Daddy Do-Over can schedule a consultation with one of our board certified Atlanta plastic surgeons. We’ll be honest about what will work for you. A Daddy Do-Over is not a weight-loss method; it’s for men within range of their ideal weight, but are bothered by enlarged breasts and have stubborn fat deposits. If that sounds like you, why not get a covert surgical assist? When people ask if you’ve “been working out a lot,” it could be pretty satisfying to just smile and say, “Yeah.”

Over 325,000 people nationwide had a liposuction procedure in 2011 to rid their bodies of stubborn pockets of excess fat and to return to a sleeker, more pleasing shape. What happens to all of that liposuctioned fat after they’ve said “good riddance” to it? Fat can’t just disappear; if it could, you wouldn’t need a plastic surgeon’s help to suck it away. So where does it go? Surely not to where it went in “Fight Club”—no human fat makes its way into fancy soap. It can be put to good use, though, according to some intensive research:

Plumping Up the Skinny Parts. Have you ever heard a petite woman say, upon hearing that a friend is having liposuction, “You can give some of that fat to me!” It may be meant as a joke, but the truth isn’t far off. Liposuctioned fat can be injected back into a different area of your own body. That’s right: you can take fat from your belly and add it to your face to hide wrinkles. Research is currently being conducted to develop reliable ways to permanently move fat to other areas of the body as well.

Saving Lives. You may not like your excess fat, but someday in the future, it just might turn into a superhero. Liposuctioned fat cells contain stem cells, which have the potential to cure disease. Just think, that spare tire you can’t wait to get rid of might help save someone’s life one day.

Keeping Researchers Busy. Liposuctioned fat contains the answers to the mysteries of the universe, and researchers are working hard to find them. While that might be an exaggeration, liposuctioned fat may indeed contain the answers to some important questions, like how did you end up with too much of it in the first place?

Replacing Fuel—Not! One doctor took the idea of recycling a bit too far and converted harvested human fat into biodiesel fuel for his SUV. State medical boards have very strict rules regarding use and disposal of medical waste, so don’t expect to see more human fat-powered cars in the future.

Liposuction in Atlanta is so popular because it is an outpatient surgical procedure with a fairly quick recovery time. Make sure you choose the right doctor to perform your surgery. Contact the board certified plastic surgeons at Advanced Aesthetics, PC, for a consultation to learn if you are a candidate for this procedure.

While women in Atlanta are known for their good looks, not every ATL gal feels confident about her appearance—especially if she’s lost breast volume or never had the full bosom she always wanted. Opting for breast augmentation can be a way to boost self-esteem and to feel more confident and beautiful.

But it’s not the right choice for everyone. So before you think about breast implants for yourself, consider these five reasons not to get breast augmentation in Atlanta:

5. You play for the Atlanta Rollergirls.

It’s rare, but extreme trauma to your breasts can cause an implant to rupture and deflate. You can participate in just about any activity without fear of damaging your implants, but activities like roller derby might cause your breasts to be hit extremely hard or severely compressed.

4. Your social calendar is too full to take any time off.

It can take several weeks for your implants to settle into position. Until then, your breasts may appear to sit higher on your chest than normal, and you’ll experience some swelling and tenderness. If your schedule is currently full of VIP events and social gatherings, wait until your calendar clears before scheduling your procedure.

3. You’re the knife-thrower’s assistant.

First, let us sympathize; that’s a tough way to make a living. But even if you feel that breast augmentation is your ticket to a better gig, we feel obligated to remind you of your occupational hazard: one “miss,” and you could be leaking saline solution! On the other hand, perhaps the new generation of cohesive silicone breast implants could offer a bit of protection?

2. Your boss promised you a raise to offset the costs.

Ever seen the movie “9 to 5?” Having your boss salivate over your figure could be a real problem. Even if someone else pays for the entire procedure, you shouldn’t jump onto the operating table. Breast augmentation is major surgery with social and personal consequences. Don’t do it for someone else.

1. You hate shopping for clothes.

Women who hate malls or spending money on clothes may cringe at the thought of a post-augmentation shopping spree for new bras, bathing suits, and tops. If you choose to get breast implants, be ready to buy some new outfits to show off your “girls.”

The board certified plastic surgeons at Advanced Aesthetics are available to help you make your Atlanta breast augmentation a success, and they want to ensure that you make the decision for the right reason—yourself!

As long as you’re capable and reliable, shouldn’t your skills—and not your looks—earn you the perfect job? While experience should trump looks for most jobs, the lines grow fuzzy when an aging facial profile or a double chin affects how others see you.

During the job hunting process, many things are out of your control. When you land an interview, you never know how many applicants you’re competing against. You may wow the hiring manager, but you can’t know when—or if—he’ll call you back. You may know your skills will benefit the company, but you can’t know if they can afford to hire you in this economy.

So focus on those things you can control—such as eating right, reducing stress, networking for connections, and of course, looking your best.

While it’s against the law for employers to discriminate against job candidates because of age, let’s face it—they still do. Historically, employers are less likely to choose an older candidate over a younger, equally qualified worker for a number of reasons. Even though studies prove older people make great hires, prejudice leads many interviewers to believe that older workers are slow to adapt, less likely to be up on the latest technology, and more likely to develop health issues.

Even fair-minded hiring managers are trained to sniff out weaknesses. Confidence is the key. After all, how can potential employers place their confidence in you and your abilities if you don’t have confidence in yourself?

Overcome those snap judgments and level the playing field by taking years off your appearance with a well-timed and well-executed cosmetic facial procedure. For some, a facelift in Atlanta is a viable way to boost confidence and provide the edge you need. If you can’t afford a facelift, consider treating frown lines and wrinkles with non-surgical options such as BOTOX®, Dysport®, wrinkle fillers, or a deep skin peel.

There are other less expensive ways to boost your appearance before seeking a new job. It’s the right time to buy the right outfit, whiten your teeth, and get a flattering hairdo. It’s also the perfect time to practice keeping your posture straight and your smile genuine.

Getting an Atlanta facelift, or any other cosmetic medical procedure, won’t guarantee you’ll get a job, and it won’t fix deep-seated self-esteem issues. But taking control of your appearance in ways that are right for you can boost your confidence and give you an edge in today’s unstable job market.

After you’ve had Atlanta breast augmentation surgery, you may want to get right back into the swing of daily life, but wait! Remember, your body needs time to heal.

After surgery, your breasts will be swollen and sore, and it takes time for your implants to settle into place and assume their permanent position. Doing too much too soon can slow healing, cause further discomfort, and even push your implants out of place. Don’t let your eagerness to exercise throw your new figure out of whack—you’ll be back in action, showing off your new shape, soon enough.

For the first few days after surgery, you probably won’t feel like doing much in the way of exercise. It’s important to take this time off to rest and let your body recuperate from the surgery—it’s your perfect excuse to hog the remote and get waited on for a change. Any brisk or strenuous activity during this period may have you reaching—carefully—for your pain medication.

Most women feel up to light activity within a week. Start with slow, gentle walks; let your comfort level be your guide. Don’t overdo it. Even if you’re feeling great and are eager to get back into your exercise routine soon after your breast augmentation, you should avoid some types of exercise for a few weeks more:

Aerobics—Aerobic exercise raises your blood pressure and could cause you to begin bleeding again. To prevent injury to your breasts, avoid things like jumping jacks, calisthenics, and even dancing.

Weight Lifting—Lifting weights could cause your implants to move to a different position. Even after you’ve been cleared to start weight training again, be cautious when resuming chest exercises to avoid straining the muscles that support your new implants.

Running or Jogging—These high-impact exercises carry the same risks as aerobics and weight lifting do. Ease back into this exercise slowly, starting with a brisk walk and increasing the speed and intensity of your workout gradually.

Biking—You may think biking is great choice because it doesn’t put much strain on your chest area, but you still need to be careful. Like aerobics and jogging, biking can raise your blood pressure.

We generally recommend that our breast augmentation patients wait 2 to 6 weeks after surgery to resume these exercises. During your follow-up visits, your board certified Atlanta plastic surgeon can tell you know when it’s safe to resume your exercise program, based on your personal needs.

To minimize discomfort and muscle strain caused by the added weight of your new breasts, always wear a sports bra while you exercise. Take it easy, move at your own pace, and of course—no running with scissors.

You may leave your doctor’s office singing a new tune, but most recording artists don’t write about their latest procedures. The majority of songs embracing plastic surgery have fun with the industry and people obsessed with their appearance. That’s OK with us. Once you’ve had your procedure and love your new look, we don’t think you’ll mind laughing about the subject—because you know how good you feel. Nothing complements your new face or your new breasts more than a great sense of humor, something we have in abundance in Atlanta. Now, on to the songs. Drum roll, please…

5. “A Perfect Lie”

The cable TV show called Nip/Tuck used the song “A Perfect Lie” for its theme song. The show, with all its weird twists and sexual overtones, starts out with the words from the song: “Make me beautiful … Perfect soul; perfect mind; perfect face … a perfect lie.” While the show displayed the steamy side of the business, it entertained its viewers with antics from doctors that you’ll never find in your local plastic surgeon’s office. The song “A Perfect Lie,” performed by indie/techno band The Engine Room, repeats its lyrics over and over with a mesmerizing melody that could almost serve as sedation. Almost.

4. “Plastic Surgery Slumber Party”

In 2007, transgender makeup artist and MySpace diva Jeffree Star released “Plastic Surgery Slumber Party.” Considered electro-pop, the song is a self-deprecating account of plastic surgery: “Touch my plastic face and see what happens. I’m hiding from the world behind Chanel sunglasses.” It’s difficult to tell whether he’s sad that he has to undergo cosmetic alterations to look like the woman he wants to be or if he’s just plain depressed: “Plastic parts, broken hearts, masterpiece, scalpel please.”

3. “I Want Some Plastic Surgery for Christmas”

Robert Lund, with song re-writers Spaff, performed a parody of the Gayla Peevey holiday tune, “I Want a Hippopotamus for Christmas.” The song, “I Want Some Plastic Surgery for Christmas,” professes to want only the best—and she doesn’t care what you think—as professed in the opening lyrics: “Only major silicone will do. So don’t go and preach that inner-beauty speech; I want some golden bozos that will stun you at the beach.” In the song, the author also laments what women have to do to keep up appearances: “I’ve got no more desires for pads and lifts and wires.”

2. “Plastic Surgery”

English-born Adam Ant, lead singer for the 1980s punk rock band Adam and the Ants, penned a tune about giving advice to a friend following a car accident. He sings that plastic surgery can make things right: “Plastic surgery—it’s so plastic; Plastic surgery—fantastic.” The song continues with a dig on the costs associated with plastic surgery: “Well you might have to sell your car and your parents’ brand new house; You lie awake and lose your sleep; Baby, miracles do not come cheap.”

1. “Like a Surgeon”

“Weird Al” Yankovic may not have specifically targeted plastic surgeons with his little parody of Madonna’s “Like a Virgin.” But the irony of the song has grown over time, given Madonna’s ageless face and body … she must have had some help, right? But it surely wasn’t from Weird Al himself. Think of the song as a cautionary tale, with lyrics like: “Like a surgeon, cuttin’ for the very first time. Like a surgeon; here’s a waiver for you to sign.” You know those smart, great-looking celebs choose surgeons with experience who take the time to explain the procedure and have a great safety record.

Keri Hilson, born and raised in nearby Decatur, is a rising music star. Pretty and well proportioned, she’s adored by R&B fans all over the world. Jovita Moore is the face of Atlanta’s WSB-TV newscasts. Respected and admired, she can light up a room with her smile. Both women have little in common beyond their local connection.

Then again, neither counted on plastic surgery-enabled lookalikes. Should they be worried?

Most women have specific goals when they decide to pursue cosmetic surgery. Sometimes the goal is modest, such as a rhinoplasty procedure to finally “fix” her nose, making it more in balance with the rest of her face. Sometimes the goal is restorative, such as a breast lift with an augmentation to restore her figure to her pre-pregnancy years.

Occasionally, though, we see a woman who wants Atlanta plastic surgery to do more for her than fix or restore … she wants a complete makeover. As a result, we get requests from well-intended individuals for body procedures that aren’t only impossible; they’re dangerous. We get requests for facial makeovers that more closely resemble a remodeling than a reupholstering.

This is one reason ethical Atlanta plastic surgeons require a consultation before agreeing to operate on a patient. A consultation isn’t the law, but it is a good idea. A very good idea. No surgeon will operate on a patient without a consultation first. It is, of course, an opportunity for you to get to know the surgeon and describe what it is about your face or body that dissatisfies you. It is also, however, an opportunity for the surgeon to impart realistic expectations and assess you as a patient.

A consultation is a two-way street. If one lane is blocked, then the meeting breaks down. Both you and your surgeon must take time to listen as well as to speak honestly. This exchange of information sets the foundation for a successful plastic surgery procedure. You want to trust your doctor to deliver the results you are looking for, and the surgeon wants to trust that you understand what he can and cannot do.

So if you go into a consultation asking to look like Keri Hilson or Jovita Moore, the surgeon is going to have to spend the first part of your visit talking you down from your heights of fancy to find out what specifically you want him to do. Do you want a flatter tummy? Rounder curves? Brighter eyes? Fuller lips?

Once you have agreed on a procedure or on combining a few procedures, you must understand what realistic results you can expect. If you believe a few tweaks here and there will turn you into Keri II or Jovita Junior, then you may not be an ideal candidate for Atlanta plastic surgery, even if you’re physically healthy. Your plastic surgeon may decide not to proceed, knowing that no matter what he does, you will not be satisfied.

Just as you want your surgeon to do what he promised, he wants you to be ecstatic when he does. Listen to your surgeon during your consultation. Look at the before and after photos available to you in order to get a good idea what you may look like after your procedure. Most importantly, have realistic expectations. A good plastic surgeon does not try to make you look like someone else; a good plastic surgeon tries to make you look like you, only better.

We are bombarded with advertisements nearly from the moment we arise in the morning to the moment we close our eyes at night. As a result, millions of men and women are being conditioned to believe that the ideal model of beauty for a woman is fit, tall, slender, and buxom. Even our loved ones may expect us to live up to these physical ideals.

We believe beauty comes in many shapes and sizes. The key is confidence!

Here’s Our Advice

If your boyfriend (or even your husband) asks you to get a breast augmentation, consider the reasons for his request. Is he mirroring what you’ve been saying, showing he supports your own wishes to be more curvy? Or does he want you to make a change just for him?

It may be tempting to acquiesce and grant his wish. You want to please him. You want to measure up to society’s standards. You want to look and feel beautiful. But Atlanta breast augmentation is not a minor decision; it is major surgery. If you decide to have a breast augmentation, make sure you are doing it for the right reasons.

Do It for Yourself

You’re less likely to be happy with breast augmentation surgery if you have the procedure for another person. Getting breast implants will not solve relationship issues.

Think about what it will be like to have larger breasts on a day-to-day basis, not just on date night. The decision is a personal matter, something you should pursue only if it’s something you want for yourself. Let us repeat that: The time to get a breast augmentation is when you want it for yourself.

If you do decide to move forward with breast enlargement, do your homework, both to educate yourself about the procedure and to find an Atlanta board certified plastic surgeon who can help you reach your goals. As for your boyfriend, make sure he knows what to expect. It will be important to have his unswerving support during your recovery.

Risks and Rewards

Atlanta breast enlargement is not something to undertake lightly. The procedure is an investment. The operation has risks, as with any surgery. Recovery takes time.

On the other hand, breast augmentation can improve your self-confidence and self-image. It can give you the figure you’ve always wanted, and the extra self-assurance you develop can be a positive influence in your life.

In summary, carefully consider your reasons for seeking breast augmentation before going through with the procedure. Don’t do it just because your partner suggests it. Don’t do it just to look like your favorite celebrity. Do it because it’s something you want for yourself. When done for the right reasons, breast augmentation can be a satisfying life change.

Breast augmentation is one of the most popular types of plastic surgery. If you are among the many women considering breast enlargement in Atlanta, you must decide—along with your plastic surgeon—the type and size of the implant, the location of the incision, and the position of the implant behind your breast.

Most women interested in augmentation already know about implant types (saline or silicone gel) and incision sites (for example, under the breast, around the nipple, or in the armpit). This article discusses where behind your breast to place the implant.

What Are Your Options?

There are three implant positions to consider. During a subglandular procedure, your plastic surgeon inserts the implant behind your mammary gland, but above the pectoral muscle. This placement is also referred to as submammary or retroglandular.

Another option is the subpectoral procedure. In this procedure, your surgeon places the implant behind the breast below the pectoralis major muscle of your chest. This is sometimes incorrectly referred to as a submuscular position, but in the subpectoral procedure, the implant is not entirely covered by muscle.

In an actual submuscular procedure, the implant is completely covered by muscle tissue in your chest. The surgeon uses not only the pectoralis major muscle, but other muscles as well to conceal the implant.

Which Procedure Is Best?

Each implant location has pros and cons. To understand all the implications of each option for you, discuss it with your plastic surgeon during your consultation.

The subglandular procedure is appropriate for women who have adequate breast tissue to cover the implant. The subpectoral procedure offers advantages over the subglandular, such as minimizing the instance of implant rippling.

More and more, however, Atlanta plastic surgeons are opting for submuscular placement. Placing the implant under the chest musculature lessens the likelihood of the implant interfering with mammogram imaging, which can be a factor for women with a family history of breast cancer. This procedure also tends to look more natural for women with little of their own breast tissue.

Depends on Your Goals

Your body type and desired outcome may dictate a specific procedure. Submuscular placement is not appropriate for every woman. Discuss your goals with your surgeon. Trust your surgeon’s experience and skill, but do your own research. Ask about the different options, as well as the surgeon’s experience with each. Do not move forward with a breast augmentation in Atlanta until you are completely comfortable with your surgeon and the procedural details.

At Advanced Aesthetics, PC, our board certified plastic surgeons spend time with you at the consultation to get to know you and listen to your desires. We do physical exams to determine the most appropriate course of action to satisfy those desires. When considering Atlanta breast implants, come in for a free consultation and meet one of our skilled surgeons. The knowledge, experience, and care our physicians exhibit will inspire your trust.

The decision to get plastic surgery to enhance your physical appearance or to correct a physical flaw is just the beginning of the process. During the consultation with your plastic surgeon, discuss your goals and concerns. The surgeon will conduct a physical exam and then draw on his or her experience and expertise to present you with the options that can help you achieve the results you want. Depending on your unique case, your surgeon might suggest that you combine surgical procedures. Why is this sometimes a good idea?

Obtaining the Desired Results

Most likely, your plastic surgeon will suggest combining two or more plastic surgery procedures when your desired results cannot be feasibly achieved with a single procedure. Combining procedures can often enhance the overall results of each.

For example, a facelift patient might also consider eyelid surgery to improve the anti-aging results of the facelift. In this situation, the surgeon may determine that the patient’s eyelids make the eyes look older and that a facelift alone is not enough to achieve the patient’s desired youthful appearance. It’s all about the patient’s goals.

Here’s another example: A woman meets with a plastic surgeon to restore her pre-pregnancy abdomen. She’s done her homework and decided that a tummy tuck is what she needs, but her surgeon might suggest breast augmentation to further improve her overall figure and the shape of her body.

There are many factors involved in choosing procedures that are appropriate for you. Your plastic surgeon’s job is to provide options. It is up to both you and the surgeon to make the final decision.

Benefits of Combining Procedures

The benefits of combining cosmetic surgery procedures can vary, depending on the procedures and desired results. Fortunately, some benefits are common to all plastic surgery procedures.

You can often expect improved results by combining procedures. In some cases, a single procedure is not enough to reach your desired results. In other cases, the procedures can compliment each other.

Combining multiple procedures means a shorter total recovery time. In other words, recovering from two procedures done at the same time typically requires less total downtime than having the same procedures at separate times.

Combining plastic surgery procedures usually lowers the overall cost as well. You may save on the surgeon’s time, operating room costs, and anesthesia. You can sometimes save hundreds or thousands of dollars, depending on your surgeon and the specific surgical procedures.

Conclusion

Deciding to combine plastic surgery procedures is ultimately a personal decision, although only a board certified plastic surgeon can determine which procedures best address your specific concerns. If your surgeon suggests combining surgical procedures, think of the benefits. It is as safe as a single procedure, and it can save you money and recovery time, while potentially improving your results.
