5 Questions to Ask Before Your Tummy Tuck

Hitting the beach or heading out for vacation can be difficult when you’re embarrassed with the way that you look. With the Georgia heat in full force, it’s the perfect motivation to whip your body into tip top shape. Sure, diet and exercise are great for losing unwanted fat and replacing it with lean muscle, but in some instances it isn’t enough to provide you with the shapely figure you desire.

At Advanced Aesthetics, we offer a handful of body contouring surgeries—but a tummy tuck is by far one of the most rewarding.

Is a Tummy Tuck For Me?

Whether you’re a woman looking for a more slender appearance and hourglass silhouette, or a man hoping to trade in his “beer gut” for a more defined, masculine shape, a tummy tuck can help you achieve those goals.

Also referred to as abdominoplasty, this procedure offers realistic results for those who are already at or near their ideal body weight but seeking to tone up their stomach area. Ideal candidates should be able to maintain a fairly stable weight, as well as partake in healthy eating and exercise.

What is the Procedure Like?

Things like aging, weight fluctuation and childbearing can cause the abdomen area to weaken over time. When this happens, a tummy tuck can help to restore and tighten lost structure and improve the overall contours of your body.

Prior to surgery, you will be comfortably placed under IV sedation to induce a gentle sleep. We will then administer an epidural anesthesia to ensure that you wake up comfortable following the procedure. Once asleep, one of our qualified surgeons will make an incision between the belly button and pelvic area. Through this incision, your surgeon will remove any excess skin and tissue and tighten your abdominal muscles to reveal a shapelier contour.

Will Recovery Be Painful?

Like any surgical procedure, there will be some minor pain and discomfort in the weeks following your tummy tuck. It’s important to allow your body to rest and heal before returning to your regular activities. For most patients, they are ready to return to work and daily life about three weeks after the surgery. We suggest limiting any strenuous exercise or heavy lifting for at least six to eight weeks to allow your newly-shaped abdomen to recover. Our surgeons use EXPAREL a non-narcotic local analgesic. It is administered during your procedure directly into the surgical site and helps control pain for up to three days.

What Can I Expect For Results?

One of the greatest benefits of an abdominoplasty are the permanent results. As long as you keep up with an active lifestyle and healthy eating, you will enjoy your more flattering midsection for many years to come.
