Breast Augmentation in Atlanta, GA

breast implants atlanta

Breast augmentation is one of today’s most popular plastic surgery procedures in Atlanta and throughout the United States. In fact, the latest survey from the American Society of Plastic Surgeons places breast augmentations as the top cosmetic procedure in America, with just under three hundred thousand augmentation surgeries performed in 2016 alone.

Breast augmentation improves breast size, shape and fullness, yet has a reasonable recovery time to achieve the desired result. It is a highly customizable procedure based on your body type and the overall aesthetic you want. You can choose from different sizes and types of implants as well as various augmentation techniques to ensure your new breasts look exactly the way you want. Our surgeons take pride in creating a specialized surgical plan for each patient, working with an artist’s eye to help you to achieve a balanced and proportional figure.

What is breast augmentation?

Breast augmentation is a procedure that uses synthetic implants filled with silicone gel or saline solution to enlarge and reshape the breasts. Implants can be used simply to increase breast size, but they can also be used to give breasts a more rounded shape or even out breasts that are differently sized. Many women experience inconsistencies in breast tissue that result in differently sized or shaped natural breasts, or have natural breasts that are too small to complement their figure. After breast augmentation surgery, you will be proud of your new curves. The difference will be noticeable, especially when wearing bathing suits and lingerie. Breast augmentation provides a great increase in self-confidence as well, and the more confident you feel, the more it shows.

Your Breast Augmentation Procedure

Breast augmentations are highly individualized surgeries. Your surgeon will talk to you about their recommendations regarding incision location, implant type, and where to place the implant (above the chest muscle — subglandular — or below the chest muscle — submuscular). This is also the time to establish good communication with your surgeon, so he can tailor a surgical approach to meet your expectations.

Implant Type

The Advanced Aesthetics plastic surgeons have a tremendous amount of experience with both saline-filled and silicone gel-filled implants. Silicone implants are generally preferred for their more natural feel, since the gel’s texture is very similar to that of natural breast tissue. Saline implants are more appropriate in some instances, however, as they can provide a perkier look, tend to be more cost-effective and are easier to troubleshoot in rare cases of implant rupture. Both types of implants come in all different shapes and sizes that can be adjusted to meet your needs. During your in-person consultation, your surgeon will expertly measure and assess your body to help you decide on the breasts that will perfectly complement your physique. Your surgeon will also have sample implants for you to feel and test to get a sense of how your new breasts might look.

As you may be aware, the FDA made a recommendation to the Allergan Company (formerly McGhan) to recall any and all macro-textured breast implant devices. As always, Advanced Aesthetics’ primary concern is the safety of our patients. As a reminder, the FDA is NOT making a recommendation to have already implanted devices removed at this point. However, macro-textured implants or tissue expanders will not be inserted going forward. We are welcoming any of our patients or any new patients to please call us with any questions so we can provide you with the latest updates. We would also ask you to consider making an appointment to discuss any concerns in more detail.

Incision Types

We use different styles of implants—such as high profile, medium plus profile, and medium profile—to give you the greatest range of choices for the look you desire, but the placement of your incisions during your surgery can also make a difference in how your breasts look when they are fully healed. Our surgeons are masters of the art of incision placement, and can perform most techniques including the popular periareolar — around the perimeter of the areola — and inframammary — in the fold under the breast — incisions. Both of these incisions tend to heal well and are nearly invisible due to their subtle placement.

Depending on several factors including your lifestyle, the size of your natural areola and the type of clothing you wear, your physician will be able to recommend one incision type over others. We want your incision to remain concealed and as unnoticeable as possible. After all, at Advanced Aesthetics Plastic Surgery Center, we provide the most natural looking breast augmentations possible for our patients, and you want everyone to be guessing what your secret is.

Breast Augmentation Recovery and Results

Breast augmentations are very routine procedures for our experienced surgical team. You will be allowed to return home the same day as your procedure, as soon as your surgeon clears you to leave — typically an hour after your surgery ends. We perform your surgery in Fayetteville at our brand new, state-licensed and American Association for Accreditation of Ambulatory Surgery Facilities-certified surgery center. Most often, breast augmentation is performed under IV sedation, but occasionally patients may require general anesthesia. You can discuss your preference with your surgeon during your consultation. Regardless of your choice, you will be comfortable throughout the procedure, and the entire process from check-in to release only takes a few hours.

We typically recommend taking about a week off from work after breast augmentation, though some of our patients feel healed and energetic enough to return to sedentary jobs in less time. All heavy lifting and exercise are prohibited for the first three to four days after your surgery. You should spend this time resting, staying hydrated, eating well and managing any pain or discomfort according to your surgeon’s instructions. Should you need any medication for slight discomfort during this short recovery period, your surgeon can recommend or prescribe this after your surgery. You may also be fitted for a custom compression support bra to minimize movement as you heal.

You should continue to avoid heavy exercise and activities that might irritate or jostle your breasts for the first two to three weeks post-op. Depending on your level of swelling and the type of implants you’ve chosen, results can take a longer period — up to a few months — to become fully visible. Your recovery will depend heavily on the specifics of your surgery and your body’s usual healing processes, which your Advanced Aesthetic Plastic Surgery Center surgeon will help you understand with a customized and detailed recovery plan.
