Breast augmentation is one of today’s most popular plastic surgery procedures in Georgia and throughout the United States. Some patients have naturally small breasts, while others may be dealing with deflation of the breasts as a result of childbearing or significant weight loss.
Breast augmentation is a highly customizable procedure that uses implants to improve breast size, shape, and fullness. You can choose from different sizes and types of breast implants as well as various augmentation techniques. This customization helps to ensure that the breasts have the look and feel you desire.
Your physician will help determine the best surgical techniques for you based on factors such as the size of your areolas, the type of clothing you wear, your lifestyle, and your implant choice. We want your incision and implants to remain as concealed and unnoticeable as possible.
Periareolar Incision
This incision is made along the outer edge of the areola. This incision offers a more discreet scar, as the incision blends with the darker pigment of the areola.
This incision cannot be used with silicone implants, and we mainly use it for secondary breast augmentation with saline implants.
Inframammary Incision
This incision is made along the fold under the breast (the inframammary fold). This is the preferred incision placement, and it allows for the scar to be hidden beneath the breast and for minimal disruption to the breast tissue.
Submuscular Placement
The implants are placed beneath the pectoral muscle. This is the preferred placement and can offer a more secure implant and natural-looking contours. It is also believed that this implant placement reduces the risk of capsular contracture.
Submammary (Subglandular) Placement
The implants are placed above the pectoral muscle but below the glandular breast tissue.
Breast augmentation is performed with the patient under general anesthesia. You will be comfortable throughout the procedure, and the entire process from check-in to release only takes a few hours.
Prior to surgery, you will be prescribed all medication that you’ll need to be comfortable during recovery. This is so you’ll already have your medications and can go directly home after surgery to relax and recover without having to make a trip to the pharmacy.
Immediately following the procedure, your breasts will be wrapped in bandages. You may be fitted for a custom compression support bra to minimize movement, reduce swelling, and support the breasts as you heal. You will be allowed to return home the same day as your procedure, as soon as your surgeon clears you to leave—typically an hour after your surgery ends. Your recovery will depend heavily on the specifics of your surgery and your body’s usual healing processes, which your Advanced Aesthetics Plastic Surgery Center surgeon will help you understand with a customized and detailed recovery plan.
Your breast volume increase will be visible immediately. However, depending on your level of swelling and the type of implants you’ve chosen, results can take a longer period—up to a few months—to become fully visible.
Results continue to develop over time as healing continues. Your most permanent results will be visible once bruising and swelling have subsided and the implants have settled.
