Breast Augmentation in Atlanta

Breast augmentation is one of today’s most popular plastic surgery procedures in Georgia and throughout the United States. Some patients have naturally small breasts, while others may be dealing with deflation of the breasts as a result of childbearing or significant weight loss.

Breast augmentation in Atlanta is a highly customizable procedure that uses implants to improve breast size, shape, and fullness. You can choose from different sizes and types of breast implants as well as various augmentation techniques. This customization helps to ensure that the breasts have the look and feel you desire.

What Are My Breast Implant Options?

Material Silicone

Silicone breast implants are filled with a silicone gel that resembles the feel of natural breast tissue. Silicone breast implants are FDA approved for women 22 and older

The majority of patients (90 to 95 percent) choose silicone implants, as they have a reduced rupture rate compared to saline implants and are generally considered a better long-term investment.

Saline

Saline breast implants are filled with a sterile saltwater solution and are FDA approved for women 18 and older. These tend to provide a perkier look, are most cost-effective, and are easier to troubleshoot in rare cases of implant deflation.

Shape Round

Round implants are spherical and provide a full appearance with enhanced projection. These implants are beneficial because breast shape will be maintained even if the implants rotate within the breast pocket.

Texture Smooth

Smooth implants have an outer implant shell with a sleek texture. Smooth texture is ideal for round implants because it allows the implants to move within the breast pocket without distortion.

Profile

Implant profile determines the projection of the implant from the chest and is based on the size of the implant width and base.

High Profile

High profile implants have a narrow base to provide the most projection and achieve full, round breasts.

Moderate Profile

Moderate profile implants have a wider base with less projection than high profile implants but still provide a more rounded breast shape.

Moderate Plus Profile

Breast implants with a moderate plus profile provide more fullness toward the bottom and sides of the breast for a natural appearance.

Breast Augmentation Surgical Techniques

Your physician will help determine the best surgical techniques for you based on factors such as the size of your areolas, the type of clothing you wear, your lifestyle, and your implant choice. We want your incision and implants to remain as concealed and unnoticeable as possible.

WHERE ARE THE INCISIONS FOR BREAST AUGMENTATION MADE?

Periareolar Incision

This incision is made along the outer edge of the areola. This incision offers a more discreet scar, as the incision blends with the darker pigment of the areola.

This incision cannot be used with silicone implants, and we mainly use it for secondary breast augmentation with saline implants.

Inframammary Incision

This incision is made along the fold under the breast (the inframammary fold). This is the preferred incision placement, and it allows for the scar to be hidden beneath the breast and for minimal disruption to the breast tissue.

WHERE WILL MY BREAST IMPLANTS BE PLACED?

Submuscular Placement

The implants are placed beneath the pectoral muscle. This is the preferred placement and can offer a more secure implant and natural-looking contours. It is also believed that this implant placement reduces the risk of capsular contracture.

Submammary (Subglandular) Placement

The implants are placed above the pectoral muscle but below the glandular breast tissue.

WILL I BE IN PAIN DURING OR AFTER MY ATLANTA BREAST AUGMENTATION?

Breast augmentation is performed in Atlanta with the patient under general anesthesia. You will be comfortable throughout the procedure, and the entire process from check-in to release only takes a few hours.

Prior to surgery, you will be prescribed all medication that you’ll need to be comfortable during recovery. This is so you’ll already have your medications and can go directly home after surgery to relax and recover without having to make a trip to the pharmacy.

WHAT IS RECOVERY LIKE AFTER BREAST AUGMENTATION?

Immediately following the procedure, your breasts will be wrapped in bandages. You may be fitted for a custom compression support bra to minimize movement, reduce swelling, and support the breasts as you heal. You will be allowed to return home the same day as your procedure, as soon as your surgeon clears you to leave—typically an hour after your surgery ends. Your recovery will depend heavily on the specifics of your surgery and your body’s usual healing processes, which your Advanced Aesthetics Plastic Surgery Center surgeon will help you understand with a customized and detailed recovery plan.

WHEN WILL I SEE MY BREAST AUGMENTATION RESULTS?

Your breast volume increase will be visible immediately. However, depending on your level of swelling and the type of implants you’ve chosen, results can take a longer period—up to a few months—to become fully visible.

Results continue to develop over time as healing continues. Your most permanent results will be visible once bruising and swelling have subsided and the implants have settled.

When can I return to my normal activities after breast augmentation?

All heavy lifting and exercises are prohibited for the first three to four days after your breast surgery. Soreness, swelling, and bruising will be most prevalent in the first one to five days. We typically recommend taking about one week off from work after breast augmentation, though some of our patients feel healed and energetic enough to return to sedentary jobs in less time. You should spend this time resting, staying hydrated, eating well, and managing any pain or discomfort according to your surgeon’s instructions. Continue to avoid heavy exercise and activities that might irritate or jostle your breasts for the first two to six weeks post-op.

What is the cost of breast augmentation?

The cost of breast augmentation in Atlanta varies depending on the needs of the patient, the surgeon’s expertise, additional fees, and your combination of procedures. We tailor each surgery to the desires of the patient, and your exact breast augmentation cost will be discussed during your consultation.

Is breast augmentation right for me?

Breast augmentation is an excellent option for those who want to add volume and shape to their breasts. If you feel self-conscious about the way your breasts look in clothes or in the mirror, if you struggle to find bras that you can fill, or if you feel as though your breasts do not balance out the rest of your figure, a breast augmentation may be the best option for you.

What size breast implants should I get?

The size of your breast implants will be determined in person during your consultation. Your surgeon may make recommendations about size based on your body structure and desired aesthetic. The implant material, shape, and placement will also affect the best implant size for you.

We encourage patients to bring in pictures of their desired breast size, and we also allow a significant other, family member, or friend to come in the operating room during the sizing process in most cases.

Which breast implant material is the best choice for my breast augmentation?

Saline and silicone implants both have pros and cons, so the best choice is truly a matter of individual preference and your surgeon’s recommendation. While deciding, you may consider the desired feel and firmness of the bust.

Can I get my breasts augmented without implants?

While breast augmentation with implants is the most reliable way to get the breast volume and shape you want, fat transfer (fat grafting) can achieve a subtle volume increase and enhance your natural breast contours. This procedure uses liposuction surgery to remove excess fat from another area of your body and then transfers it to the breasts. However, fat grafting is rarely done as a standalone breast augmentation procedure; it is commonly combined with implants for patients with thin natural breast tissue.

Should I get a breast lift with my breast augmentation?

Breast augmentation can enhance the volume of the breasts and provide a slight lift, but it cannot dramatically correct skin laxity and moderate to severe sagging. Breast lift surgery combined with breast augmentation can remove excess skin and reshape the breasts while adding volume.

Can I combine breast augmentation with other procedures?

Yes. Breast augmentation is often combined with other body contouring procedures for comprehensive body enhancement and rejuvenation. Many mothers combine their augmentation with a breast lift, a liposuction procedure, and/or tummy tuck surgery in what is known as Mommy Makeover surgery.

Can I breastfeed after a breast augmentation?

The ability to breastfeed following a breast augmentation is different for each individual. Breast surgery can damage the milk ducts within the breast, which can affect the amount of milk produced. Some patients may be able to breastfeed normally, while others may have reduced milk production or no production at all. Be sure to discuss this with your surgeon if breastfeeding is a concern.

How long will my breast implants last?

While breast implants can provide satisfying results for many years, they are not considered lifetime devices. They may need to be replaced at some point in your life, whether due to changes in lifestyle and aesthetic preferences or due to a complication like implant rupture/deflation or capsular contracture. Breast revision surgery can be used to remove or replace your implants.

Do you offer anatomically shaped implants?

Anatomical breast implants (teardrop shaped) are meant to mimic the shape of natural breast tissue and have a fuller lower portion that tapers toward the top. These highly cohesive silicone implants have a textured implant shell to prevent them from rotating within the breast pocket. However, due to safety concerns and FDA recommendations, the implant manufacturer Allergan has recalled the majority of their Natrelle® textured implants. At Advanced Aesthetics, patient safety is our number one concern, and we no longer use shaped implants due to their textured surface.

Should I have my textured implants removed?

As you may be aware, the FDA made a recommendation to the Allergan Company to recall their macro-textured breast implant devices. As always, our primary concern at Advanced Aesthetics is the safety of our patients. The FDA is not making a recommendation to have already implanted devices removed at this point. However, macro-textured implants or tissue expanders will not be inserted going forward. We are welcoming any of our patients or any new patients to please call us with any questions so we can provide you with the latest updates.
